🏛️ Origin & History

  • Ancient Olympics: Began in Olympia, Greece in 776 BCE as a religious festival honoring Zeus.

  • Modern Olympics: Revived in 1896 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in Athens, Greece.

  • Winter Olympics: Started in 1924 in Chamonix, France.

  • Held Every 4 Years: Summer and Winter Games alternate every two years.

  • Organized by: International Olympic Committee (IOC), headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland.

  • Participants: Over 200 countries and territories.
