Bajrang Punia, Wrestling Champion

We Need A Stadium In Every Village:

The wait for the first gold medal at the Asian Games this year was not long as Bajrang Punia secured the yellow metal after beating Japan’s Daichi Takatani in the 65kg category.
Bajrang dedicated his medal to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who breathed his last in August. The wrestler believes his Asian Games glory will be the first major step in the direction to realise his bigger dream at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In an exclusive interview to The CSR Journal, the wrestling champion spoke candidly about the need for the government to encourage sports from a young age in the villages. “We need a stadium in every village,” he said. He believes corporate sponsorship will be the boost for athletes to train hard without worry. Bajrang himself was supported by automakers Tata Motors which was the principal sponsor for the Indian wrestlers at the Asian Games 2018.
