Earth Day 2023
World Book and Copyright Day 2023
What is copy right : the legal right to be the only person who may print, copy, perform, etc. a piece of original work, such as a book, a song or a computer program
Every year, UNESCO invites the international community to celebrate
World Book and Copyright Day on 23 April. This day recognises books as:
“A Link between the past and the future"
"A bridge between generations and across cultures” and
Calls for "Celebrations of the power and joy of books".
On this day, UNESCO recognises the various stakeholders that make up the book sector – authors, publishers, booksellers, and libraries.
In 2023, World Book and Copyright Day will link the power of literature and storytelling with the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-32) with the theme: Indigenous Languages.
The International Decade of Indigenous Languages launched in 2022 with the goal of promoting and protecting Indigenous languages and improving the lives of their users. Libraries can play an important role in meeting the objectives of this decade.
Libraries can be spaces for engaging communities, listening and working together to preserve and provide access to Indigenous knowledge, language, and culture in a culturally appropriate and community-determined way.
World Book and Copyright Day 2023 is a moment to share stories, amplify good practice, and kick off a discussion on how access to various forms of literature, including oral traditions, can help protect Indigenous languages, cultures, and knowledge systems.
Get involved!
How does your library celebrate World Book and Copyright Day?
Does your library work to protect and revitalise Indigenous languages?
Share your stories in the lead-up to 23 April!
On social media, tag your posts #WorldBookDay and #IndigenousLanguages to join the global conversation.
Visit the website of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages to find out
more about the action plan for the decade and ways you can get involved.
Contact: Claire.mcguire@ifla.org for more.

💐💐💐💐
1. By Holding Book Exhibition of all the Reference Books in the library for a week.
2. By Holding talks on Books, Copy Rights and plagiarism.
3. By conducting on the spot self-composed poetry / Idea / project.
4. Disseminating information on original work submission avenues.
5. Awareness on indigenous Language literature i.e. Haryanvi Sahitya.

AIM- SMART
SMART goal: what does it mean?
S=Specific
If your goal is clear and specific, you will be able to focus your efforts to achieve it and feel truly motivated.
Formulating your specific goal, pay attention to the following questions:
- What do you want to get?
- Why is your goal important?
- When is it going to happen?
- Who is involved?
- What are the limits?
Remember, that your goals should be formulated precisely and specifically so that everyone knows what is expected of them.
M=Measurable
Another critical aspect of goal setting is developing a measuring system for your progress. Defining a measurable goal will give you the extra motivation to push through difficult moments.
The following questions may be relevant while identifying your measurable goals: how many (how much)? How will you know when it is accomplished? How can it be measured?, etc.
Remember, that each goal should have starting and finishing points.
A=Achievable
If you want your goals to be successful, try to make them as more attainable and achievable as possible.
They should stretch your abilities but stay possible.
Find opportunities or resources to get closer to it. The following questions to make your goal achievable may be helpful:
- How realistic are your goals?
- What are the ways to achieve a specific goal?
- What are possible constraints?, etc.
- R=Realistic
Each goal should be something that you can make a reality. Realistic and relevant goals take into account the practical side in which everyone is involved.
To make your goals realistic, answer to these easy questions:
- Does your goal match the other needs?
- Does this goal seem worthwhile?
- Is this the right time to set it?
- Is it applicable in the current environment?
T=Time bound
Goals need specific frameworks and dates to provide you with deadlines to focus on and something to work toward. This element of SMART concept prevents your everyday tasks from taking priority over the longer-term goals.
In order to make goals time-bound, pay attention to these questions:
- When is it relevant?
- What can I do N months from now?
- What can I do N weeks from now?
- What can I do right now?

Shaolin Temple was established in 495A.D. at the western foot of Songshan Mountain, 13 kilometers northwest to Dengfeng City, Henan Province. The then-Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-557) had the temple built to accommodate the Indian master Batuo (Buddhabhadra). Shaolin Temple literally means “temple in the thick forests of Shaoshi Mountain”.
As the first Shaolin abbot, Batuo (Buddhabhadra) devoted himself to translating Buddhist scriptures and preaching doctrines to hundreds of his followers. Later, another Indian monk Bodhidharma arrived at Shaolin Temple, who was said to have crossed the Yangtze River on a reed. He spent nine years meditating in a cave of the Wuru Peak and initiated the Chinese Chan tradition at Shaolin Temple. Thereafter, Bodhidharma was honored as the first Patriarch of Chan Buddhism. As Chinese Kungfu also originated from Shaolin Temple, it has been recognized as the origin of Chan Buddhism and the cradle of Kungfu.
