SWAYAM

SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.

This is done through an indigenous developed IT platform that facilitates hosting of all the courses, taught in classrooms from 9th class till post-graduation to be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any time. All the courses are interactive, prepared by the best teachers in the country and are available, free of cost to the residents in India. More than 1,000 specially chosen faculty and teachers from across the Country have participated in preparing these courses.
The courses hosted on SWAYAM are in 4 quadrants – (1) video lecture, (2) specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed (3) self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and (4) an online discussion forum for clearing the doubts. Steps have been taken to enrich the learning experience by using audio-video and multi-media and state of the art pedagogy / technology. In order to ensure best quality content are produced and delivered, nine National Coordinators have been appointed: They are AICTE for self-paced courses, NPTEL for engineering, UGC for post-graduation education, CEC for under-graduate education, NCERT & NIOS for school education, IGNOU for out of the school students and, IIMB for management studies.

I wish every physics teacher was like him

Welcome to Gita Supersite

This website has been built as part of a larger effort to create a series of websites based on Indian philosophical texts. Our team works under a project in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Our major website is the Gita Supersite. It is not only the first site that we have built, but even today, a large part of our collective effort is spent in improving this site. We see this website as representative of all our work, and also as a model of how we think such work should be done. This website has the aphorisms of the Brahma Sutra together with Sankara's commentary.
The texts are in Sanskrit and can be viewed in any of 11 language scripts: Assamese, Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi, Roman, Tamil and Telugu. We hope to put up English translations of the Sutras as well as Sankara's commentary very soon.
An Index to the Sutras is also planned. The 2-Book View allows you to open two copies of the text simultaneously for a comparative study of different chapters/sutras of the book. A list of other websites created by us is available on the home page.
Dynamic fonts have been used on this site, so no download of fonts is required. However, if you face problems viewing the site, first look at the sections on Technical Requirements and Fonts Troubleshooting. If the problem persists, please send us email. We will appreciate any other feedback/comments.
We wish you joy, and invoke the blessings of Vyasa and Sankara on your study of Vedanta!

AcSIR

Establishment of AcSIR has its origins with the Kelkar Committee constituted in 2004 to review CSIR’s functioning. The Report recommended that CSIR laboratories should be encouraged to take on the role of Research University and seek Deemed University status.
Later AcSIR was established in 2010 (by a resolution of GOI on July 17, 2010) and formalized by an Act of Parliament vide The Gazette of India (dated February 7, 2012) and notified on April 3, 2012 as an Institution of National Importance.
It has been set up based on a ‘Hub and Spoke’ model where hub (AcSIR Offices) is responsible for centralized administrative functions. The spokes are located in the 37 laboratories and 6 units of CSIR spread along the length and breadth of India, which act as actual campuses for different subjects or areas. In addition, AcSIR has collaborative programs with other national and international organizations.
The Institute has been mandated to undertake high quality teaching and advanced research in frontier areas of Science and Technology. The Mission of the Academy is to be achieved through the students of AcSIR who are doing research in the broad areas of Biological Science, Chemical Science, Engineering Science, Mathematical & Information Science, Physical Science, and Inter- & trans-disciplinary areas of study. As yet, 811 students have already graduated from AcSIR.
Currently, AcSIR has approx. 4000 Students enrolled in Ph.D, Integrated M.Tech-Ph.D, Integrated M.Sc-Ph.D and PG Diploma courses.

World Intellectual Property Day- April 26

Powering change: Women in innovation and creativity
Every April 26, we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day to learn about the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.
This year’s World Intellectual Property Day campaign celebrates the brilliance, ingenuity, curiosity and courage of the women who are driving change in our world and shaping our common future.

In 2000, WIPO's member states designated April 26 – the day on which the WIPO Convention came into force in 1970 – as World IP Day with the aim of increasing general understanding of IP.
Since then, World IP Day has offered a unique opportunity each year to join with others around the globe to consider how IP contributes to the flourishing of music and the arts and to driving the technological innovation that helps shape our world.
