Innovation Festival 2016

21st January 2016


Innovation Festival is open ended, encouraging and generous in Spirit. It is about participation, not competition. The Festival is an all age showcase and celebration of Invention, creativity and resourcefulness. This is a place to meet and interact with likeminded innovators from different walk of life. This will also provide opportunity to showcasing Maker, who is exploring new forms and new technologies, to interact with makers from different technological world. It will support discovery and exploration while introducing new tools for advance design. Its other objective is fostering creativity in people and to make them agent of change in their personal life and their community.During the festival, several contests will be organized for students and general visitors on prior registration basis.

The National Science Centre, Delhi, popularly known as Science Museum of Delhi, in addition to showcasing of galleries, organizes various competitions and events for imparting informal science education and creating scientific temper among the school students in particular and general public at large.
Realizing the importance of Innovation and the impact of experimentation and scientific method in shaping logical thinking among our community, the National Science Centre is organizing Innovation Festivalduring 21st to24th January,2016. It will aim to foster a passion and aptitude for science and technology and to provide a unique platform to Innovative and creative Innovators.
The Innovation Festival will comprise of

INNOVATION FAIR
It will provide people an opportunity to showcase their most innovative products made by them in the past. Innovation fair is all about what doinnovators do, what they make, how they do. It is a gathering of fascinating and curious people who enjoy learning and sharing what they can do. It’s a platform for Innovators to show their creative work and interact with others of varieties of fields. It is interactive, with plenty of opportunities for hands on or do it yourself interaction for adults as well as kids.
What will be at displayat InnovationFair
1.    Products made by Identified innovator/ Maker in the past
2.    Working on new projects  and demonstration of their work
3.    Giving opportunity for visitors participation in New project

Who can participate: Hobbyist, enthusiasts, students, amateurs, professional of all age and gender can participate in the Festival. They will have to apply on prescribed format available at the websiteor reception counter of National Science Centre, Delhi. A screening committee will be constituted to Identify Innovative ideas, creativity and to restrict their numbers.They will classify them in two groups.
Category A
Under this category, Those Innovators with confirmed innovations or as screened by screening committee will be allowed. They should submit their credentials of their products also if possible. They will be given Honorarium and TA restricted to Rs, 1500/- per head per day.
Category B
Under this category all those innovators, whose products are likely to be possible will be allowed to showcase their innovations and it will be open for discussion by public and Judges. May be innovators will have suggestions from judges or public. They will bring their products at their own cost. No Honorarium will be given in this category. This will provide a platform for all sorts of Ideas and will promote spirit of Innovation. Prior registration will be must in this category. Thescreening committee decision in this regards will final and binding upon all participants.
(Maximum 40 Innovators combining both categorywill be allowed to Participate in this fair.)

Venue & Duration of the Fair: The venue will be fair ground area of National Science Centre. The Fair will be offour days duration starting from 21st to24th January,2016and Timing will be 10.00AM to 4.00PM.

OTHER EVENTS DURING FESTIVAL

A)   Build from Scrap:
1)In this event, participants will display working models/creative usable products using scrap materials. It should be participants own creation.Schools and engineering students are encouraged to participate in this event.
2)    “Build from Scrap” Make it at Science CentreThe participants can built his own creation(Either Art or Science) using scarp materials one week before the start of Innovation Festival i.e14th to 20th January, 2016 in National Science Centre, Delhi and can use tools and machinery available at Science Centre. They will have to get approvedthere project with NSC, Delhi before start working on project. They have to bring their own scrap materials for construction and some of scrap materials of NSC, Delhi can also be used with permission.They will be judged in separate category and they will display their product with other participants of Build from Scrap contest
B)   On the spot Design Contest/Innovative Challenges: This event is open for families. Participants will be given a task and the best performer will be awarded. Maximum 4 members (Minimum 2) of the family can participate in the event.
C)   Robofest: This event will be twofold:
1)Creative Robo Design: Any one can bring his own built creative Robo who can perform innovative or varieties of task. It will be judged by panel and will be awarded prizes. This will be one day event which will be held on 10th January,2016.Their product will be kept at display from 10.00AM to 4.00PM.
2)In second event a 3 days training camp cum contest for school students in collaboration with LEGO. A school can send one team of 3 studentsfrom class8 to 12 having some knowledge of Programing. The event will encourage students to have fun while learning the principles of robotics. After training, participants will design, construct and programme in robotics and participate in Task Contest.
D)   Hand-on Minds-on Session: This event is open to all specially for escorts and teachers accompanying participants. Session will be held for public to do hands-on, minds-on science activities in Innovation Space. It will not be contest and registered members can participate in activities of Innovation space. They can make small electric motor, speaker, flute etc. or can open up electric iron and reassemble it.
E)   Stage blast: Innovative Five minutes: Any Individual, group/ Family of Maximum 8 participants will be given stage for five minute to show case their Innovative talent may be in the form of Music, cultural or scientificfield and their performance will be judged by jury for creativeness, Innovativeness. Please note that this will not be purely dance or musical contest and must be filled with innovative Ideas. They will be given 10 minute to setup the stage also. The performance should not risk the life of performer or stage property. They will have to submit their script in advance which will be approved by committee and kept secret until performance.
f) Family Science Quiz: Families will be invited to participate in the event and finally 4 families will be selected based on written round. The questions may be current science, Ancients Science or Demonstrative type. Final round will be held with demonstrative experiments. Maximum allowed family members are 4 and minimum 2.
g) Popular Science Lecture: Stimulating public lecture will be delivered by renowned person and open for all.

Who can participate:

Age limit: There is no age limit for participation in Innovation Festival. There will be entry fee which can be deposited through cheque or transferred in favour of “National Science Centre, Delhi”.
Rules and regulations for Participation in Innovation Fair
1.    Innovator has to register with National Science Centre, Delhi for participation. He/she should apply on prescribed format available at NSC, Delhi with details of previous work done and also about the new creation planned by him. A committee will scrutinize these applications and select the participant for the Innovation fair. They will classify them in two categories which will be informed to participants. The National Science Centre Delhi will have all rights to accept or reject.

2.    Innovator/Maker selected will be given maximum 10ftX 10ft area where he will showcase his previous work and to work on new project using small tools. Large scale branding of their company or organization is discouraged within the allotted area.The maker must submit his/ her plan of display in advance.

3.    All the Innovators/makers, Stage blast participant and Build from scrap  should attend the Pre Festival meeting to discuss their project,presentation and Modus Operandi of their display which will be held on 30th of December2015 in the Auditorium of National Science Centre at 11.00 AM.

4.    They can avail facilities of Workshop and Innovation Space of National Science Centre for specific requirements. They can use these facilities before the start of the fair also subject to availability. However these facilities will be given only to selected participants.

5.    They will have to bring their own specially required materials and specially required tools. In Special circumstance NSC, Delhi can provide tools and materials if approved by The Director, NSC Delhi.

6.    Innovator/Maker will be charged Rs. 100/- for participation and will have to makeown arrangement of stay and transportation during the Fair. However, an amount of Rs 1,500/- per day will be offered as honorarium and transport charge to the selected participants in group A category and Rs. 500/- to B category innovators.

7.    Although there will not be any contest or competition in Innovation Fair, Team of Experts will  be constituted to select award of the year in following fields
1) Best Skilled Work(trophy)
2) Best In Art(trophy)
3) Best in Science (trophy)
4) Best in Technology (trophy)
5) BestRobo
No cash award will be given in this category.

8.     Innovator/Maker will not be able to directly sell their product to visitor during the fair, however they can have discussion about this and NSC, Delhi will have no role in deal.

9.    Innovator/Makers are requested to inform about their specific requirement well in advance so that the necessary arrangement could be made.

10. During the Fair lunch/ snacks etc. will be provided to the participants/Innovators/makers in Innovation Fair, Build from Scrap and Robofest by National Science Centre, Delhi.

11. Makers have to make their own arrangements of patenting their Idea and due acknowledgment to National Science Centre should be given wherever applicable.

12. National Science Centre may retain the best project/Entry for one year for display to enthuse or motivate the other makers and may recommend for participation at other exhibitions/ Fairs.

14. Participation is limited and may be done on first cum first serve basis in case of overwhelming response.
15. Prize Structure for the contestswill be
First prize             :Rs.3000/-
Second prize      :Rs.2000/-
Third Prize           :Rs.1000/-
Decision of panel of Judges will be binding on all the Participants and no argument in any form will be entertained by NSC, Delhi.All these events are organized with the aim to foster scientific temper and spirit of Innovation.
16. Form for the participation can be downloaded from the website or can be requested through email innovationnscd@gmail.com. One can collect in person also from Reception counter of NSC, Delhi.
17. National Science Centre, Delhi has all rights to do necessary modifications in the programme includingcancellation of the event.
