History of NSD-National Science Day

In the year 1986, it was decided by the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. Of India to celebrate the National Science Day. Therefore, the first National Science Day was celebrated in 1987 in the country.

In 1928, Sir C.V. Raman discovered the famous Raman effect or Raman Scattering which means the inelastic scattering of photons by matter, meaning there is both an exchange of energy and a change in the light’s direction. In the year 1930, Sir C.V. Raman was awarded the Physics Nobel Prize for this outstanding discovery.

Objective

There are many objectives to celebrate National Science Day in India :

  1. To motivate the future of the nation/Students towards Science & Technology.
